The following recipes were prepared for the Iron Chef competition at the Gray Owl District Camporee

Philly Spamsteak Sandwiches

Ingredients:

1 can Spam
3/4 cup Red Onion, cut into 1/4 inch slices
8 slices Provolone Cheese
1/4 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
1/3 cup All Purpose Flour
1 tsp each Salt and Pepper
2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
4 Hoagie Rolls, sliced lengthwise

Slice the spam lengthwise into three rectanglar patties. Slice each pattty into 1/4 inch strips. Mix the flour, salt and pepper together in a shallow dish and dredge the spam strips in it to coat. Heat the oil over medium heat and add the onions. cook 1 to 2 minutes until slightly softened and then add the spam strips. Cook another couple of minutes until the spam starts to brown. Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the skillet to absorb excess vegetable oil. Lay the slices of cheese evenly over the top of the skillet and allow to melt into the meat and onions, about one minute. Evenly divide sandwich mixture between 4 sandwich rolls. Enjoy.

Makes 4 Sandwiches


Spam on Bowtie Pasta

Ingredients:

1 can Spam
1 package Bacon Pieces (not bacon bits)
12 oz. Bowtie Pasta
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
Italian Salad Dressing
Shredded Parmesan Cheese
2 tbsp Vegetable Oil

Cook pasta according to package directions, drain and toss with 2 tbsp italian dressing and set aside.
Meanwhile, slice spam into 1/4 inch diced pieces. Add vegetable oil and 2 tbsp dressing to skillet over medium high heat and add spam. Sprinkle with garlic powder and cook until spam is slightly browned. Add bacon pieces and continue cooking for one more minute. Toss meat with pasta and top with grated parmesan cheese. Serve with french bread. Enjoy.
